Porebada (Village) Club Visit

The PNG Chess Federation made its first visit to Porebada Village, a nearby community on the outskirts of Port Moresby, to introduce and promote chess to local players. Residents of all ages joined in friendly games, learned new strategies, and experienced organized chess for the first time. This milestone reflects the Federation’s ongoing commitment to growing the game across all regions of Papua New Guinea.

GM Nigel Short visits Papua New Guinea

During his brief visit to Papua New Guinea, Grandmaster Nigel Short participated in a series of events organized by the PNG Chess Federation. Highlights included a simultaneous exhibition (simul), where Nigel played multiple local players at once, sharing his expertise and inspiring both seasoned and aspiring chess enthusiasts. His visit offered a unique opportunity for PNG players to learn directly from a world-class grandmaster and helped promote chess nationwide.

PNG Represents at 2022 Chess Olympiad, India

In 2022, the Papua New Guinea Chess Federation proudly sent its national team to compete at the Chess Olympiad in India. The team faced off against top international players, gaining invaluable experience and exposure on the world stage. This historic participation highlighted the growth of chess in PNG, inspiring local players and strengthening the country’s presence in the global chess community.

First Visit to GabaGaba Village Chess Club

The PNG Chess Federation made its first visit to GabaGaba Village, a nearby community on the outskirts of Port Moresby, to introduce and promote chess to local residents. Players of all ages participated in friendly games, learned new strategies, and experienced organized chess for the first time. This visit is part of the Federation’s ongoing effort to expand chess awareness and participation across communities throughout Papua New Guinea.

FM Shaun Press Visits Papua New Guinea

The PNG Chess Federation welcomed FIDE Master Shaun Press for a visit focused on coaching and arbiter training. During his time in the country, FM Press conducted workshops to enhance the skills of local players, provided guidance to aspiring chess coaches, and led training sessions for tournament arbiters. His visit strengthened the Federation’s programs for player development and official training, helping to raise the standard of chess competitions across Papua New Guinea.

Quarterly Tournaments for All Ages

The PNG Chess Federation continues to organize quarterly tournaments for both adult and junior players, providing regular opportunities to compete, improve skills, and earn national ratings. These tournaments foster healthy competition, encourage strategic growth, and strengthen the local chess community. By maintaining a consistent calendar of events, the Federation ensures that players of all levels have the chance to participate, learn, and showcase their talent across Papua New Guinea.
